
Mr. Egemen Bağış, Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator of Turkey, visited E.M.U. to give a conference on "Turkey's EU Membership Process", organized by Cyprus Policy Center.
Mr. Egemen Bağış, Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator of Turkey, visited E.M.U. to give a conference on "Turkey's EU Membership Process", organized by Cyprus Policy Center.
Mr. Bağış started his speech by mentioning the importance of the Northern Cyprus and Turkish Cypriots for Turkey. Mr. Bağış also stated that, AKP Government in Turkey supports the peace negotiations in Cyprus. In addition, Mr. Bağış said that the economic development of the Northern Cyprus is very important for Turkey. He also gave some examples on the support of Turkey the Northern Cyprus economy especially in education sector.
Later on, Mr. Bağış mentioned the relations between Turkey and EU explaining the negotiation process between them. Mr. Bağış issued information to the audience about the ongoing negotiations between Turkey and EU by summarizing the historical background of the negotiations. Mr. Bağış continued his speech by giving some examples about new developments made by AKP Government such as the establishment of a Kurdish broadcasting TV channel, TRT 6, and also giving back of the Turkish citizenship to the Nazım Hikmet who was a famous Turkish poet.
At the end of the conference, Mr. Bağış answered the questions coming from the audience.
