"Conflict in Cities and the Contested State" Group visited Cyprus Policy Center, 23 March 2009

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen gave a conference on the Cyprus problem to the "Conflict in Cities and the Contested State" Group.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen gave a conference on the Cyprus problem to the "Conflict in Cities and the Contested State" Group.
 
The Director of the Cyprus Policy Center, Ahmet Sözen issued information about the Cyprus Problem and the negotiations to the  project group of "Conflict in Cities and the Contested State". Ahmet Sözen explained the position of the two side in the negotiations on different issues. He also mentioned the domestic politics of the North Cyprus in terms of the upcoming general elections. Ahmet Sözen stated that "The existing political elite in North Cyprus prefers a federal solution but if the main opposition party, UBP, wins the elections, the preference of the Turkish Cypriot side may change".
Ahmet Sözen also mentioned the results of the referanda in 2004 and its results. Finally, he put forward possible future scenerios for the Cyprus problem.
The questions of the Group "Conflict in Cities and the Contested State" on the Cyprus problem was also answered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sözen.
